Try to set up a situation where you are planning to watch a show near your subjects and… well… tune it in. It’s best to tune a program that requires some level of concentration to take away full benefit of the producer’s intent. Something like a documentary would fit the bill especially if it is about something unfamiliar to your subjects.
Now watch the show.
Do your subjects feel the need to augment the program’s content with frequent outbursts beyond one word reactions? If yes, you need to really dig deep and see if you want to deal with small minded people who want to feel big by embellishing a show’s subject matter with expertise they do not have?
